What's coming for teachers.

Built for AP® English and history teachers first, with the same rubrics your students already use on GradeLamp.

  • Batch grading

Grade a whole class set against one rubric.

    • Drop up to 40 .docx, .txt or text .pdf files, or the ZIP Google Drive makes of an assignment folder.
    • Pick an AP® Lang, DBQ or LEQ rubric (as each AP grader opens), a library rubric, or build your own.
    • Essays grade 3 at a time, with each row scored, quoted and given one comment.
    • Handwritten work isn't supported: files need real text.
  • Review you can't skip

You stay the grader of record.

    • A class table shows every student, row and total, with outliers flagged.
    • Each flagged row needs your Accept or Change before the essay can be marked reviewed.
    • A blind spot-check hides the AI score on 3 essays until you've entered yours.
    • Nothing goes to students automatically. Exported feedback ends with “Feedback drafted with AI and reviewed by your teacher.”
  • Class sets never stored

Student names stay on your computer.

    • Files are read in your browser. Our servers see “Student 01”, never a filename.
    • Paste your roster and every name is removed from the text before anything is sent. Emails, ID numbers and MLA headings are caught too.
    • No class-set essay or result is saved on our servers. Results stay in your browser for 7 days by default, and “Clear batch” deletes them at once.
    • Student work is never used to train AI.
How it will work

From class set to gradebook.

  1. Step 1: Verify your school email

A school domain on our list verifies at once; otherwise we check by hand within 24 hours.

  2. Step 2: Choose a rubric and prompt

Use one of our practice prompts or paste your own.

  3. Step 3: Drop in the class set

We flag likely names and you remove them in one click.

  4. Step 4: Review every flagged row

Accept or change each one, edit comments, mark essays reviewed.

  5. Step 5: Export

Gradebook CSV, an audit CSV with AI and teacher scores side by side, and per-student feedback.

Privacy for schools

Student work is not training data.

What we store
Nothing from a class set: no essays, results or filenames. We keep usage counts only.
Who sees it
You. Essays go to Anthropic's Claude for grading as “Student 01”, with names removed, and are never used to train AI.
Your district
An individual teacher account is not a district agreement, so check your district's approved-tool list. We're preparing a standard student data privacy agreement for districts that want one.

Read our privacy policy

Before 22 January 2027

Students can use GradeLamp now on their own essays. If you try it on a student's work before teacher accounts open, remove the student's name first: essays graded while signed in are saved to your history for 30 days. See our academic integrity guidance for setting a class AI policy, and how GradeLamp grades.

Questions from teachers.

When do teacher accounts open?

On 22 January 2027. Join the waitlist and we'll email you once, that day.

Can I change the AI's scores and comments?

Yes. Every row score and comment is editable, and flagged rows need your Accept or Change before an essay can be marked reviewed. Your scores are what go into the gradebook export.

Do student names reach your servers?

No. Files are read in your browser, names from your roster and common headings are removed before grading, and our servers see only labels like Student 01.

Is student work used to train AI?

No. Neither GradeLamp nor our AI provider, Anthropic, trains models on student work, and class sets are never stored on our servers.

Which grades is it for?

Grades 9 and up, and college. Teacher accounts aren't for work by students in grade 8 or below.

Does it detect AI-written essays?

No. GradeLamp grades writing against a rubric and never labels work as AI-written.
